Prescription drugs in pregnant women prof. Svetlana Skurtveit:

prof. Svetlana Skurtveit

Some medications can affect pregnancy and the fetus, and some medications should be avoided during pregnancy. Nevertheless, it is important to treat serious conditions during pregnancy. It is important to find out if drugs have negative effects on the fetus and if so, what kind of effects. Pharmacoepidemiology is the study of the use and effects of medications in well-defined populations. During the lecture we will discuss how we can use pharmacoepidemiological methods correctly when studying the effect of medication used during pregnancy. As an example, we will discuss the use of painkillers such as opioids and paracetamol.
